A TO: Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Sherry Dvorak, Recreation Supervisor DATE: 05/06/2014 SUBJECT: Acceptance of Donation of Safety Fencing at Tahpah Park by Shakopee Men's Softball- Res. No. 7447 (D) Action Sought The City Council is asked to offer Resolution No. 7447, A Resolution of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota Accepting the Donation of Safety Fence at Tahpah Park from the Shakopee Men's Softball. Background and Discussion Over the winter months, members of Shakopee Men's Softball requested the installation of safety fencing along Field 4 at Tahpah Park. This safety fence would be similar to the existing safety fence at Field 1. The fence would be 40' in length and consist of 8' gage fencing. Staff has met with members of Shakopee Men's Softball and Bill Egan, Parks Maintenance Supervisor to discuss project. The project is acceptable to all parties. The cost of the project is $1,155. Men's Softball will pay for the installation of the fence. Upon accepting the donation of this improvement the fence will be added to the City's Park Asset list. The City of Shakopee appreciates the generosity and partnership of Shakopee Men's Softball, who continues to support the City's parks and recreation services and has given time and resources over the years to help make the Shakopee facilities wonderful facilities for the community. Requested Action The City Council, if concur, offer Resolution No. 7447, A Resolution of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota Accepting the Donation of Safety Fence at Tahpah Park from the Shakopee Men's Softball. Attachments: Resolution No. 7447 RESOLUTION NO. 7447 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA ACCEPTING THE DONATION OF SAFETY FENCE FROM SHAKOPEE MEN'S SOFTBALL WHEREAS, on November 6, 2002, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 5794, which established procedure relating to the receipt of gifts and donations by the City; and WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5794 specifies that donations of real property shall be accepted by resolution of the City Council, and shall require a two- thirds majority of the Council for acceptance; and WHEREAS, SHAKOPEE MEN'S SOFTBALL have generously donated safety fencing for Field 4 at Tahpah Park; and WHEREAS, such a donation will help improve park facilities and enhance the overall quality of life in Shakopee. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the donation is gratefully accepted; and FURTHER, the City staff is directed to send a letter to the donor, acknowledging receipt of the gift and expressing the appreciation of the City Council.
