SUBJECT: Discussion of Workshop Meeting Dates
Introduction
Action Sought
The Council should discuss adding Workshop Dates to the meeting schedules
Background
In January, the City Council adopted a meeting schedule which allowed for general business to be considered on
the third Tuesday of the month, and to have the first Tuesday of the month reserved for more broad 'workshop'
discussion items. So as to keep business topics which were deemed routine and non - controversial, or time - sensitive
from being delayed, the Council subsequently agreed to allow "consent' types of items to the workshop agendas.
In looking at the amount of workshop items which currently need to be addressed, it appears that a single workshop
meeting each month is going to be insufficient. I have attached a tentative City Council schedule of meeting topics
for the April 29th meeting, as well as May and June. It is apparent that a second workshop evening should be
scheduled (which would be the fourth Tuesday of the month).
Therefore, at this time, we ask that Council consider adding the fourth Tuesday as workshop meeting night. If
there are insufficient numbers of items to be considered, the added meeting could always be canceled.
Recommendation
I recommend that Council designate the fourth Tuesdays of each month as a'workshop' meeting night, beginning
May 27th.
Action Required
If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, approve workshop meeting nights to be held on the first and fourth
Tuesdays each month, and have the business meeting on the third Tuesday of the month.
