SUBJECT: Discussion of Lining of Individual Sanitary Sewer Service Lines
Introduction
Provide guidance to Staff as to the Council's level of interest in providing for the lining of individual sanitary sewer
lines.
Background
One of the problems encountered in the older portions of Shakopee are issues with sanitary sewer service lines - -tree
roots growing into the lines which cause blockages, and lines which are failing due to age of the construction
materials. By city policy, the lines are the responsibility of the property owner from the house, to the main in the
street. If a service fails, oftentimes the street will need to be dug up.
Public Works Director Bruce Loney has requested approximately 15 minutes of Workshop time to determine the
Council's support for a prospective service to be coordinated by the City of Shakopee, which would allow for the
installation of a plastic lining of the service line from the sewer main to the house. Mr. Loney will provide
information regarding potential advantages, and estimated costs of this service.
Action Required
Provide Staff with direction as to Council's level of interest in providing this service.
