SUBJECT: Special Meetings

INTRODUCTION:
The Council is asked to give direction on special meetings that are needed in the next
couple of months.
BACKGROUND:
The Council has previously set a workshop date for 6:30 PM on Tuesday, January 29,
2008, for joint meetings with the Park and Recreation Advisory Board, and the
Telecommunications Advisory Commission. I have been asked to relay to Council the
need to have additional special meetings for the following subjects:
1. Emergency Management- The Police Department has requested an evening
(probably two hours) for the Council to come to the Police Training Room. It
will be set up as the Emergency Operations Center, and Captain Craig Robson
will review with the Council their role in an emergency operations situation.
Suggested dates• Monday January 14th or Monday. January 28th
2. Joint meetings with the Historic Preservation Advisory Commission (HPAC)
and the Environmental Advisory Commission (EAC)
The HPAC needs 60 minutes to discuss with Council the HPAC's role in the
review of demolition permits, specifically concerning 53 parcels that have
been identified as locally designated historic properties.
In addition, the EAC also requests approximately an hour to obtain comments
on the draft Natural Resources Corridor design standards.
Suggested date• Tuesday January 22, 2008
3. Council Goal Setting -With the addition of Councilor Heitzman to the City
Council, staff would like an opportunity to review the goals and objectives
that were established by the Council in 2007, so as to prioritize the City's
goals and objectives for the next two years.
Suggtested date• Monday February 11 2008
RECOMMENDATION:
Council is asked to give direction on dates, and start times.
RELATIONSHIP TO VISIONING:
The discussions from these meetings potential meet all five action goals of the Visioning
process.
ACTION REQUIRED:
Council should give direction as to meeting dates and times for the following:
a. Emergency Management Workshop
b. Joint meeting with HPAC and EAC
c. Council goal setting
