SUBJECT: Appointment of Individuals to the Police Services Master
Planning Task Force

INTRODUCTION:
The City Council is asked to offer Resolution #6689, appointing individuals to the Police
Services Master Planning Task Force.
BACKGROUND:
On September 18, 2007, the City Council passed Resolution #6656, a Resolution of the
City of Shakopee, Minnesota, Establishing a Police Services Master Planning Task Force.
The City Clerk advertised for this task force and received nine applications, which were
reviewed by two City Council members and the President of the Police Civil Service
Commission. In addition, Councilor Matt Lehman indicated his interest in participating
in the Police Services Master Planning Task Force.
The nine individuals who applied for this position are being recommended for
appointment.

This project will be undertaken within the existing Police Department budget.

1. Offer Resolution No. 6689.

3. Table and provide direction to staff.

RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends Alternative # 1.
ACTION REQUESTED:
If council concurs, offer Resolution #6689, Appointing Individuals to the Police Services
Master Planning Task Force, and move its adoption.

RESOLUTION NO. 6689
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, APPOINTING
INDIVIDUALS TO THE POLICE SERVICES MASTER PLANNING TASK FORCE
WHEREAS, the Shakopee City Council passed Resolution No. 6656, Establishing
a Police Services Master Planning Task Force, at the September 18,2007, City Council
meeting; and,
WHEREAS, the City Clerk advertised for this task force in the official City
newspaper and through other avenues of communication; and
WHEREAS, there were nine individuals who applied for the task force, meeting
the deadline of applications; and
WHEREAS, two City Council members and the President ofthe Police Civil
Service Commission have reviewed all nine applications and recommend their
appointment; and
WHEREAS, City Council member Matt Lehman indicated his interest in
participating during a council meeting on September 18, 2007.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the following individuals are appointed to
the Police Services Master Planning Task Force:
Chuck Berg Jon McBroom Matt Rude
Barb Danielson Steve Menden Linda Van Duzee
Joseph Helkamp Larry Norring
Matt Lehman Scott Reis
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the task force is established for a period
ending no later than August 31, 2008, and shall submit a proposed Police Services Master
Plan to the City Council prior to that time.
Adopted in regular session of the City Council of the City of Shakopee,
Minnesota, held this 7th day of November, 2007.
