o.E. \
CITY OF SHAKOPEE
Memorandum
TO:
Mayor and City Council
Mark McNeill, City Administrator
CONSENT
FROM:
Kris Wilson, Assistant City Administrator
SUBJECT:
Authorization to Hire One Community Service Officer -
Jennifer Worm
DATE:
September 28, 2007
INTRODUCTION:
The Police Department is requesting Council approval to hire Jennifer Work as a part-time
probationary Community Service Officer (CSO).
BACKGROUND:
Council authorized four part-time CSO positions in the 2007 Police Department budget. Two of
those positions are currently vacant.
The P01ice Civil Service Commission conducted the necessary testing that created the
Community Service Officer eligible register dated August 23,2007. The following names are
the top candidates listed, in alphabetical order, on the eligible register established by the Police
Civil Service Commission:
Jason McMahon
Ashley Rowe
Jennifer Worm
Pheng Xiong
It should be noted that the Civil Service Rules call for the names of the top three candidates to be
presented to the City Council. However, at this time, there is a two-way tie for third place on the
eligible register, resulting in a total of four names being presented to the City Council.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that Jennifer Worm be hired at Step E of Grade Level 2 of the 2007 City Pay
Plan ($15.211 per hour).
ACTION REQUESTED:
If the Council concurs, they should, by motion, authorize the hiring of Jennifer Worm as a part-
time probationary community service officer at Step E of Grade Level 2 in the 2007 City Pay
Plan, subject to the satisfactory completion of pre-employment medical and psychological
examinations.
