TO: Mayor & City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Bruce Loney, Public Works Director SUBJECT: Removal of2-Hour Control Signage on Streets Adjacent to Junior High School on 10th Avenue DATE: September 18, 2007 INTRODUCTION: This item is for Council authorization for the placement of parking control regulatory sIgns. The installation of any regulatory sign for traffic or parking control must be approved by City Council, per City ordinance. BACKGROUND: The placement of regulatory traffic control signs is regulated by ordinance and the City Council must authorize any changes, as per Chapter 7, Section 7.03 of the City Code. At the September 4, 2007 Council meeting, the Mayor requested that staff look at the removal of "2-Hour Parking Signs" on streets adjacent to the Junior High School. These removals of "2-Hour Parking Signs" can de done due to the high school being converted to a Junior High School, thus the parking needs are greatly reduced. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Approve a motion to remove the "2-Hour Parking Signs" on streets, as identified on the attached map by the Junior High School off of 10th Avenue. 2. Do not approve a motion to remove signage on streets by the Junior High School. 3. Table for additional information. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends Alternative No.1, to remove "2-Hour Parking Signs" by the Junior High School, due a reduced need of parking by students and teachers and adequate parking in the school's lot.
