No. 6655 if'-/ CITY OF SHAKOPEE Memorandum TO: Mayor & City Council Mark MeN eill, City Administrator FROM: Bruce Loney, Public Works Director SUBJECT: Aproval of Resolution Requesting Funding from Mn/DOT through the "Metro Municipal Agreement Program 2009" DATE: September 6, 2007 INTRODUCTION: Attached is Resolution No. 6655, a resolution requesting funding from Mn/DOT through the "Metro Municipal Agreement Program 2009" for the C.R. 77/Fuller Street bridge improvement for pedestrians. BACKGROUND: A resolution requesting funding is required for a cooperative agreement proposal with Mn/DOT for potential bridge funding on the C.R. 77/Fuller Street bridge over T.H. 169. This resolution needs to be executed and submitted to Mn/DOT by September 14,2007. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Approve Resolution No. 6655, a resolution requesting funding from Mn/DOT through the "Metro Municipal Agreement Program 2009". 2. Do not approve Resolution No. 6655. 3. Table for additional information. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends Alternative No.1. ACTION REOUESTED: Offer Resolution No. 6655, A Resolution Requesting Funding from Mn/DOT through the "Metro Municipal Agreement Program 2009" and move its adoption. Bruce Loney, P Public Works Director ~ BUpmp ENGR/2007PROJECT/2007-COUNCIL-MEM6655-MNDOT -FUNDING City of Shakopee Resolution No. 6655 A Resolution Requesting Funding from MnlDOT through the "Metro Municipal Agreement Program 2009" WHEREAS, the City of Shakopee wishes to complete the last section of its pedestrian/bicycle pathway along the east side of CR 77 (Koeper StreetlFuller Street) over Hwy. 169; and WHEREAS, when Hwy. 169 was constructed, proper bridge width nor proper safety parapets and fencing were provided as part of the bridge construction to facilitate pedestrian accommodations on the CR 77 bridge over Hwy. 169; and WHEREAS, the City of Shakopee is requesting financial participation in the project from the Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) through the "Metro Municipal Agreement Program 2009" to construct safe pedestrian accommodation on the bridge; and WHEREAS, the City of Shakopee must commit to providing the local share of the costs if the project is selected as part of the "Metro Municipal Agreement Program 2009." NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota, that the City of Shakopee is hereby requesting funding from Mn/DOT through its "Metro Municipal Agreement Program 2009" to construct pedestrian accommodations on the east side ofthe CR 77 bridge over Hwy. 169 to allow the final trail connection between Appaloosa Avenue and Vierling Drive. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council hereby commits to provide the local share if awarded a grant for such project under the condition that pedestrian safety provisions are constructed on the CR 77 bridge which will allow pedestrians to cross over Hwy. 169 in a safe manner.
