HomeMy WebLinkAbout5.E.5. Resignation of Custodian Richard Hartwell/Job Decription Modification &E..5": CITY OF SHAKOPEE CONSEtiT Memorandum TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Mark McNeill, City Administrator SUBJECT: Resignation of Custodian Richard Hartwell/Job Description Modification DATE: August 21, 2007 Introduction The City Council is asked to accept the resignation of Richard Hartwell from his position as custodian at the Community Center, effective August 15,2007. The Council is also asked to approve changes in the Custodianjob description. Background Richard Hartwell joined the City as one ofthe original custodians three years ago, when the City went from contracted to in-house services. He has informed us that he is taking another job, and that his last day was August 15th. This gives us the opportunity to re-examine to whom the Community Center Custodian position should report. It has been under the Arena Manager at the Community Center; however, all other custodians have the Facilities Maintenance Manager as their supervisor. It makes sense to have all of the janitorial staff under the same leadership, and so I recommend that this position be transferred to Facilities Maintenance (in the Administration Department). ! \ i i As such, the job description will need to be changed to reflect new reporting duties, and some minor job responsib~lity changes which are now being done by other employee positions (the cross- out and underlined tbxt change is attached). This will allow all custodians to have identical job descriptions. ! i i i I Relationship to Vi~,ion: As this is a routine item, this supports Goal F - Housekeeping. I ! Recommendation Staff recommends that Council accept Mr. Hartwell's resignation with regret, and also approve related changes in the job description and reporting requirements. I i ! Requested Action The Council is asked to offer a motion: 1. Accept, with regret, the resignation of Richard Hartwell from his position as a custodian, effective August 15th, 2007, and authorize advertisement for replacement. 2. Approve the transfer of reporting responsibilities to the Administration Department. 3. Approve changes in the Custodian job description.
