TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: Mark McNeill, City Administrator
SUBJECT: Resolution of Support - Returning Veterans
DATE: August 1, 2007
INTRODUCTION:
The Council is asked to adopt a resolution expressing support for veterans returning from
the armed services.
BACKGROUND:
At the July 17th meeting ofthe City Council, the Council directed staff to prepare a
resolution expressing support for returning military veterans. The resolution was initially
prompted by the return of seven Shakopee High School graduates from duty in Iraq, but,
as I understand, the desire was for a resolution that would be applicable to all returning
veterans.
A copy of a proposed resolution is attached. It is my understanding that ifthe Council
would desire to have this resolution published, so that its content may be known by
Shakopee residents.
RECOMMENDATION:
If the resolution is acceptable, it is recommended that it be adopted.
RELATIONSHIP TO VISIONING:
This supports Goal A - Active and healthy community.
ACTION REQUIRED:
If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, adopt the following resolution:
