Parking Control Signage on Marschall Road s' 0.4, CITY OF SHAKOPEE Memorandum CONSENT TO: Mayor & City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Bruce Loney, Public Works Director SUBJECT: Parking Control Signage on Marschall Road, from C.R. 101 to Bluff Avenue and Bluff Avenue, 300 Feet West of Marschall Road DATE: August 8, 2007 INTRODUCTION: This item is for Council authorization for the placement of parking control regulatory SIgns. The installation of any regulatory sign for traffic or parking control must be approved by City Council, per City ordinance. BACKGROUND: The placement of regulatory traffic control signs is regulated by ordinance and the City Council must authorize any changes, as per Chapter 7, Section 7.03 of the City Code. Staff has reviewed a resident's request for "No Parking" signage be installed along Marschall Road, from C.R. 101 to Bluff Avenue on both sides. Figure 1 displays the current conditions along Marschall Road. Figure 2 displays the current conditions along Bluff Avenue. --~---- I I I Figure 1. Current Conditions - Marshall Road Figure 2. Current Conditions - Bluff Avenue Due to the lack of shoulders and multiple turning movements in the area it is recommended that "No Parking" signage be installed along both sides of Marschall Road, from C.R. 101 to Bluff Avenue. This will facilitate a clear zone and safe traffic for motorists. In addition, due to the street width, staff is recommending "No Parking" control along Bluff Avenue for 300 feet west of Marschall Road. AL TERNA TIVES: 1. Approve a motion to restrict parking on both sides of Marschall Road, from C.R. 101 to Bluff Avenue and Bluff Avenue, 300 feet west of Marschall Road, and direct staff to implement the necessary signage to restrict parking. 2. Do not approve a motion to restrict parking on Marschall Road. 3. Table for additional information. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends Alternative No.1, to install "No Parking" signage on Marschall Road, from C.R. 101 to Bluff Avenue and along Bluff Avenue, 300 feet west of Marschall Road.
