Introduction
The City Council is asked to adopt the attached resolution, amending the 2007 Pay Plan for Part-
Time, Temporary and Seasonal Employees to add the position of Live Sound Technician under
Grade H.
Background
With the opening of Huber Park this summer and the expectation that there will be numerous
groups utilizing the performance area, the Parks and Recreation Department anticipates the need
for a new part-time position called Live Sound Technician. The individual or individuals hired
to fill this position would work on an as needed basis to operate the sound and light system that
is part of the performance area. Based on the public contact, decision making responsibility and
technical qualifications for this position, staff is recommending that it be placed in pay grade H,
which is the same pay grade as our Recreation Instructors.
The attached pay plan for part time, temporary and seasonal employees reflects a 1.5 percent
cost ofk/ing increase for 2007. }..t the time a 3 peroent oost ofliving increase was applied to the
'Nages for full time, non union employees, staff discussed the pros and,cons of providing the
same adjustment for all types of City employees. ~\fter conducting an informal sunrey of other
cities in the motro area, we learned that more than half of our respondents do not automatioally
provido tho same cost of li'/ing adjustment to part timo, temporary and seasonal omplo)'oos as
they do for full time employees. Many cities responded that they do a market comparison on
their part time, temporary and seasonal positions every fev: years and adjust as necessary.
Budget Impact
Funding for this position was included in the 2007 Parks & Recreation budget.
Relationship to Vision
Staffing the performance area at Huber Park contributes to Goal B - a high quality of life.
Requested Action: lfthe Council concurs, it should offer Resolution No. 6618, A Resolution
Amending the 2007 Pay Plan for Part-Time, Temporary and Seasonal Employees of the City of
Shakopee, and move its adoption.

A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE 2007 PAY PLAN FOR PART-TIME, TEMPORARY
AND SEASONAL EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE
WHEREAS, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 6552 establishing the 2007 Pay
Plan for Part-Time, Temporary and Seasonal Employees ofthe City of Shakopee; and
WHEREAS, the City now has the need to create the new part-time position of Live
Sound Technician and establish an appropriate pay scale for such position;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ClTY COUNClL OF THE ClTY OF
SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that Resolution No. 6552 is hereby ame~ded to add the position of
Live Sound Technician in Pay Grade H, with a 2007 pay range of$14.602 to $17.179 per hour.
Adopted in regular session of the City Council of the City of Shako pee, Minnesota, held
this 5th day of June, 2007.

cities in the metro area, we learned that more than half of our respondents do not automatically
provide the same cost of living adjustment to part-time, temporary and seasonal employees as
they do for full-time employees. Many cities responded that they do a market comparison on
their part-time, temporary and seasonal positions every few years and adjust as necessary.
