SUBJECT: Authorization to Hire One Community Service Officer -
Nicole Maher

INTRODUCTION:
The Police Department is requesting Council approval to hire Nicole Maher as a part-time
probationary Community Service Officer.
BACKGROUND:
Council authorized four community service officer positions, each at 30 hours per week, in the
2007 Police Department budget. Two of those positions are currently vacant as a result of
resignations and promotions.
The Police Civil Service Commission conducted the necessary testing that created the
Community Service Officer eligible register dated May 22, 2007. The following names are the
top candidates listed, in alphabetical order, on the eligible register established by the Police Civil
Service Commission.
Lindsay Boldt
Nicole Maher
Ashley Rowe
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that Nichole Maher be hired at Step E of Grade 2 of the 2007 Pay Plan
(currently $14.975 per hour), subject to the satisfactory completion of pre-employment medical
and psychological examinations. By working 30 hours per week, Ms. Maher would be eligible
for pro-rated benefits.
VISIONING RELATIONSHIP:
Keeping the Shakopee Police Department fully staffed with qualified individuals helps support
Goal B - a high quality oflife for residents of Shakopee.
ACTION REQUESTED:
If the Council concurs, they should, by motion, authorize the hiring of }..1ison Kornder Nicole

examinations.
