HomeMy WebLinkAbout5.F.7. Derby Days Insurance Contribution CITY OF SHAKOPEE Memorandum 5, ;=; 7 CONSEr~T . TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Mark McNeill, City Administrator SUBJECT: Derby Days Insurance Contribution DATE: May 8, 2007 INTRODUCTION: The Council is asked to authorize payment in the amount of $4,000 to be used towards payment of general liability insurance premiums for Derby Days. The Derby Days celebration is held the first full weekend of August. BACKGROUND: Last year, the Derby Days Committee had a general liability insurance bill of some $9,000, and fund raising ran short of reaching that amount. They approached the City Council, which granted $4,000 to be used for that purpose. During budget discussions for FY 07, it was decided to put that amount in the budget for this year. The Derby Days Committee has submitted an invoice to the City for that $4,000 this year, and Council approval is needed, ifit is to be paid. It is their hope that they are able to get liability insurance in the $7,000 to $9,000 range. It is important to note that this is used for generalliability insurance only, and not for beer sales. Beer sales are handled through the Shakopee Jaycees. BUDGET IMPACT: $4,000 is budgeted and available in the FY 07 budget under the City Council's "designated miscellaneous" line item. RECOMMENDATION: I recommend that payment be approved. RELATIONSHIP TO VISIONING: This addresses Goal A - Active and Healthy Community. ACTION REQUIRED: If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, authorize payment of $4,000 to Shakopee Derby Days, to be used for the purchase of general liability insurance for the 2007 Derby Days Celebration. . :l~iflwJJl Mark McNeill City Administrator MM:th
