BACKGROUND: Staff has completed plans for the 2007 CIPP Project and is recommending that City Council approve the plans and authorize advertisement for bids, with the intent to have the bids be considered at the May I, 2007 Council meeting for the work to be done this fall. CIPP stands for Cured-In-Place-Pipe. CIPP consists of inserting a resin impregnated tube into the existing pipe. After the tube is inserted, hot water is circulated through the tube curing the thermosetting resin and forming a new pipe with a design life of at least 50 years. During the installation process, resin from the tube is forced into cracks, joints and other irregularities of the host pipe. This creates a mechanical lock between the host pipe and the new liner and holds them in place. The new liner adds strength to the existing pipe, resists the corrosion and abrasion caused by effluents and creates smooth transition over offset joints, cracks and missing wall sections. Please see the attached map for the proposed project area. The estimated construction cost for this project is $150,000.00 The bid opening is scheduled for Tuesday, May 1, 2007. As a result staff will have a memo on the table for Council to consider at the May 1, 2007 Council meeting. This project will be funded from the Sanitary Sewer Utility Fund. ALTERNATIVES: 1.
