SUBJECT: Authorization to Spend Building Funds for City Hall Electric Panels and Fire Station
#I Carpet Replacement (F)
Action Sought
The City Council is asked to authorize the expenditure of an amount not to exceed $30,000 from
the General Government Building Fund for the replacement of four electric panels at City Hall
and the purchase and installation of new carpetting for portions of Fire Station # 1.
Background
City Hall has a total of 8 electrical panels. Four of the panels are Federal Pacific panels that
appear to be original to the building, making them more than 50 years old. We are unable to buy
new replacement breakers and have increasing concerns about the safety of these old panels. Two
quotes were obtained to provide and install new panels, with the lowest quote coming in at $5,982
from Choice Electric.
Secondly, there is a need to replace the carpetting in the lobby, large training room and main
stairway of Fire Station # 1. These are high traffic areas of the building and after more than 15
years of wear, the carpet is separating and fraying in numerous spots. Unlike the current carpet,
the new flooring will be carpet tiles, which will make it easier to replace and repair small problem
spots throughout the life of the flooring. A quote for $23,250 was obtained from Hiller
Commercial Floors, which is on the state bid list for flooring.
Budget Impact
These two purchases are proposed to come from the City's General Government Buildings Fund,
which has a current balance of approximately $6.5 million.
Relationship to Vision
These are housekeeping items (F).
Requested Action
