SUBJECT: Authorization to Advertise for Mechanic's Apprentice

Introduction
The City Council is asked to authorize appropriate City staff to begin the hiring process for the
position of Mechanic' s Apprentice in the Public Works Department, to include advertising the
position and interviewing qualified candidates.

Background
The promotion of Scott Blom to Maintenance Operator will create a vacancy in the position of
Mechanic's Apprentice in the Public Works Department. Staffis seeking authorization to begin
the hiring process by advertising the position and interviewing qualified candidates.
Budget Impact
Funding for one Mechanic's Apprentice is included in the Public Works Department's 2007
budget.
Relationship to Vision: Keeping the Shop at the Public Works Department fully staffed
contributes to a vibrant, resilient and stable city (Goal D).
Requested Action:
If it concurs, the Council should offer a motion to authorize appropriate staff to begin the hiring
process for the position of Mechanic's Apprentice in the Public Works Department, to include
advertising the position and interviewing qualified candidates.
