HomeMy WebLinkAbout4.G. 2014 City Council Liaisons Appointments Consent Business 4. G. S TO: Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Brad Tabke, Mayor DATE: 02/05/2014 SUBJECT: 2014 City Council Liaison Appointments (D) (General Administration) Action Sought The Council is asked to affirm the Mayor's Council liaisons to various boards, commissions, and organizations for 2014. Background I propose to appoint the following people as liaisons or Council officers for 2014: 1. Acting Mayor—Matt Lehman (In the future, this would rotate annually to the longest-tenured member of the Council who has least recently served as Acting Mayor. In the event of a seniority tie, the recommendation would be determined by a flip of a coin.) 2. I.S.D. 720 School Board—Mike Luce (2014/15 - 2 year term) 3. Shakopee Convention and Visitors Bureau—Kathi Mocol (2014/15 - 2 year term) 4. Shakopee Chamber Of Commerce Board of Directors—Kathi Mocol (2014/15 - 2 year term) 5. Shakopee Public Utilties Commission Liaison-- Jay Whiting (2014/15 - 2 year term) 6. Metro Cities—Kathi Mocol 7. Interview Committee --Kathi Mocol and Mike Luce 8. Municipal Legislative Commission - Brad Tabke 9. SCALE/Joint Training Facility Board Representative- Jay Whiting 10. Scott County Transit Review Board - Matt Lehman 11. Suburban Transit Authority Board of Directors -Matt Lehman 12. US 169 Corridor Coalition- Board of Directors -Matt Lehman and John Schmitt (citizen representative) 13. Intergovernmental Working Group -- Matt Lehman and Brad Tabke 14. Railroad Safety Committee - Matt Lehman and Mike Luce 15.Derby Days - Matt Lehman 16. Shakopee Diversity Alliance - Jay Whiting and Kathi Mocol Ad Hoc Committee--Jackson Township Liaisons - Matt Lehman and Brad Tabke Note that I have removed some of the liaison appointments for which there is no real option for appointment, or those staff appointments. For the Relief Association, State law calls for three municipal officials to serve as ex-officio members. One must be the Fire Chief, the other two must be designated by the City Council annually. Traditionally in Shakopee, that has been the Mayor and Finance Director. Recommendation I recommend that the above listed liaison appointments for 2014 be approved. Budget Impact None. Relationship to Vision This supports Goal D, "Maintain, improve, and create strong partnerships with other public and private sector entities." Requested Action If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, endorse the appointments for Council liaison to the above listed Boards and Commission.
