SUBJECT: Authorization to Submit Outdoor Recreation Grant Application for Quarry Lake Park,
Resolution No. 7404 (A)
Action Sought
The City Council is asked to offer Resolution No. 7404, A Resolution of the City of Shakopee,
Minnesota Authorizing the City to submit an Outdoor Recreation Grant Program Application for
the Quarry Lake Project.
Introduction
This agenda item requests the City Council to adopt a resolution authorizing the grant submittal to
the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for the Quarry Park project.
Background and Discussion
Our work with the Shakopee-Prior Lake Water Ski Association on acquiring funding for the
Quarry Park project continues with another round of grant applications. As you may recall, we
were successful in securing $92,000 in funding in 2005 and $78,000 in funding in 2006. These
grants had to be turned back to the Department of Natural Resources in 2011 due to the inability
to obtain public access. Public access has now been obtained and the planning of the park can
begin. The attached resolution would allow us to submit for additional funding. The Outdoor
Recreation Grant does require a 50% local share that can consist of cash or value of materials,
labor and equipment usage.
Requested Action
If City Council concurs, it should, by motion, Adopt Resolution No. 7404, A Resolution of the
City of Shakopee, Minnesota Authorizing the City to Submit an Outdoor Recreation Grant
Program Application for the Quarry Park Project.
