SHAKOPEE TO: Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Kris Wilson, Assistant City Administrator DATE: 01/21/2014 SUBJECT: Authorization to Hire Police Officer(E) Action Sought The Council is asked to authorize the hiring of Adam Predovich for the position of police officer, at Step 1 of the current labor agreement wage scale, subject to successful completion of the required pre-employment screenings. Background The Police Department currently has one vacancy in its authorized ranks of 35 patrol officers. The Police Civil Service Commission has conducted a testing process resulting in an Eligible Register of nine candidates dated December 19, 2013. Under Civil Service rules, the names of the top three candidates on the Eligible Register are forwarded to the City Council. The top three candidates, listed in alphabetical order are: Shane L. Duncan Tyrone Karst-Adams Adam Predovich Recommendation Chief Tate recommends the hiring of Adam Predovich for the position of police officer. An in-depth background check has already been completed, however, he must still complete the required pre-employment physical, drug test, functional capacity exam and psychological evaluation. Budget Impact This is an existing, budgeted position within the Police Department. Relationship to Vision This item relates to Goal E: Deliver effective, efficient public services by a staff of well-trained, caring and professional employees. Requested Action The Council is asked to authorize the hiring of Adam Predovich for the position of police officer, at Step 1 of the current labor agreement wage scale, subject to successful completion of the required pre-employment screenings.
