Special Meeting-Emergency Preparedness s: F. ~r; CITY OF SHAKOPEE Memorandum CO~BsrNT TO: Mayor and City Council ..' ilt 1~ FROM: Mark McNeill, City Administrator SUBJECT: Special Meeting - Emergency Preparedness DATE: May 9, 2006 INTRODUCTION: The Council is asked to establish a date in which to schedule a meeting to talk about emergency preparedness. BACKGROUND: Mmbers of the Police Department have undergone training for community emergency preparedness. Chief Hughes states that the City Council should have a presentation on what is needed for preparation by the community. He suggests about a 90 minute meeting, which would best be done in a special workshop meeting. We would also ask department heads to attend. RECOMMENDATION: Attached are calendars for May and June. Unless the Council has other thoughts, we would suggest Tuesday, May 30th, at 7:00 PM. RELATIONSHIP TO VISIONING: This supports Goal D - "Vibrant and Resilient and Stable". ACTION REQUIRED: If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, call for a special workshop to be held Tuesday, May 30th, at 7:00 PM for City Council and department heads, to hear emergency preparedness actions. (Amended) DATE: May 16, 2006 In the packet, there is action to set a special meeting to discuss emergency preparedness on Tuesday, May 30th at 7 :00 PM. We anticipate that that will take approximately 90 minutes. If the Council is willing, I would also like to propose two additional items that evening (this is a 5th Tuesday, and I would prefer not to wait three weeks to discuss these other items): 1. Discussion of Park and Ride Site Options on County Road 18 (and possibly County Road 16) - 45 minutes. 2. Discussion of Personnel/Human Resources/EDA staffing reorganization - 30 minutes. Iftms is acceptable, you can leave S.F.S. on the consent agenda this evening. M~ Mark McNeill City Administrator MM:th
