Meeting Date: February 20,2007
Subject: DNR Grant Acceptance for Archery Range
INTRODUCTION
City Council is asked to adopt Resolution No. 6585, A Resolution of the City of Shakopee,
Minnesota Accepting a Grant from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for
the Archery Park.
DISCUSSION
As you may recall, we have been working with the Minnesota DNR and local archers to
secure funding to re-establish an archery facility in Shakopee. There are two approaches
to this project (dependant on other sources of funding): a standard range and an
enhanced range.
I was recently notified that the DNR has awarded the city the maximum funding allowed
under their grant program, $20,000. With award of this grant, the city would be the fiscal
agent for the project, and the grant is provided as reimbursable funding.
At this point, the following tasks have been completed that are needed to create the
range:
. Received the revised lease documents from the DNR with the corrected term (10
years)
. Received a permit from Scott County for constructing the access road under CSAH
101 bridge.
. Received a permit from MNDOT for constructing the access road under Bridge No.
4175 (old 169 Bridge).
. Received a zoning interpretation from Community Development regarding the gravel
road and parking lot
. Received grant funding.
The remaining major city task to be completed is finalizing the design and construction of
the access road. Even with gravel, the cost estimate we received from K.A. Witt is above
the project budget. We have identified the use of recycled material for the road base as a
cost-saving option, and Engineering has indicated that this material is acceptable and they
would approve its use. I am waiting on a revised price from Witt for this material.
