CITY OF SHAKO PEE CONSENT
Memorandum
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: Mark McNeill, City Administrator
SUBJECT: Recycling Bins - Additional Purchase
DATE: April 26, 2006
INTRODUCTION:
The Council is asked to affirm the purchase of an additional 1125 recycling containers,
and one lid, so as to most fully utilize a recycling grant.
BACKGROUND:
At its meeting of April 18th, the City Council authorized the purchase of3,000 eighteen
gallon curbside recycling containers, and 100 lids, from Busch Systems International.
The total cost on that was $17,880. Funding for this was to come from a $25,000 grant
from the State of Minnesota.
Since action was taken at that Council meeting, I have learned that the balance of the
grant monies cannot be used for anything other than the purchasing of recycling
containers. Rather than return that money to the State, I asked Dick's Sanitation to obtain
quotes for fully utilizing the grant. They found that by purchasing an additional 1125
containers, and one lid, that would bring the total order to $24,999.10. That is
approximately one year's additional inventory, and Dick's has space to store those at
their shop. Therefore, there is no reason not to make the purchase.
So that the order could be placed immediately, we have sent a purchase order reflecting
the new additional amounts. Council needs to affirm the purchase.
BUDGET IMPACT:
Again, because this is grant funded, there is no financial impact on the City. It provides
an additional cushion in the case future grant monies are not available.
RELATIONSHIP DIVISIONING:
This supports Goal E, "Financially Strong".
..
RECOMMENDATION:
I recommend that the Council affirm the purchase of the additional recycling containers
and lid.
ACTION REQUIRED:
If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, affirm the purchase of an additional 1125
eighteen gallon curbside recycling containers, and one lid, bringing the total purchase
from Busch Systems International, Inc., to $24,999.10.
