SUBJECT: Purchase of Aerial Truck for Fire Department. (A, E)
Action Sought
1. Move to authorize the purchase of one new aerial truck from Rosenbauer Minnesota LLC. for
the price of$935,096.00. The funding to be expended from the Capital Equipment Internal
Service Fund.
2. Move to declare the 1994 Simon Duplex Aerial Tnick as surplus equipment so that it may be
put up for sale.
Background
Staffhas inchided in the 2014 Capital Equipment Budget the need to replace Unit#9580/L25 a
1994 Simon Duplex Aerial Truck. Fire Chief Rick Coleman is requesting to use HGAC Co-Op
pricing for the purchase of one new 2014 Rosenbauer HD SS-EXT Smart Aerial Platform on a
Commander Chassis for the price of$935,096.00. Staff budgeted $1,200,000.00 in the 2014
Capital Equipment Budget.
HGACBuy is a nationwide, government procurement service that can be used by local units of
government for equipment purchases. The City Attorney and Auditor have confirmed this
purchase comply's with competitive bidding guidelines.
Staff is requesting Council authorization at this time so the truck can be constructed with a
delivery date and payment to be made in 2014. Chief Coleman has included a $52,500.00
deduction in the pricing to allow Rosenbauer Minnesota LLC. to use the truck for eight months
for demonstration purposes.
Recommendation
Staff recommends this purchase.
Budget Impact
Funding will be expended from the Capital Equipment Internal Service Fund.
