CITY OF SHAKOPEE CONSENT
MEMORANDUM
To: Mayor and City Council
Mark McNeill, City Administrator
From: Mark Themig, Parks, Recreation & Facilities Director
Duane Toenyan, Facilities Maintenance lead
Meeting Date: April 4, 2006
Subject: Hiring Facility Maintenance Worker
INTRODUCTION
City Council is asked to hire Dan Eckroth for the position of Facility Maintenance Worker.
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
Previously, City Council authorized recruitment and filling the newly created Facility
Maintenance Worker position. We advertised for the position in February, and completed
the recruitment process in March.
We received 32 applications for the position, interviewed five candidates, and
determined one finalist. Kris Wilson and Josh Barrick participated in the interview
process. We would like to thank them for their contributions.
RECOMMENDATION
We are recommending that Dan Eckroth be hired for the position of Facility Maintenance
Worker. Mr. Eckroth is currently employed with lakeville School District #194 as a
Floating Maintenance Worker/Back-up Custodian. His previous background includes
extensive facility maintenance experience very closely matched to our needs.
In recognition of Mr. Eckroths' current compensation, we are recommending that he be
hired at Grade 2, Step B ($17.23 per hour). After twelve months of satisfactory
performance and on his one-year anniversary date, his pay would move to Grade 2,
Step A ($18.15 per hour not including a cost of living increase). His tentative start date
is April 17. This action is contingent on successful pre-employment screening.
REQUESTED ACTION
If Council concurs, move to hire Dan Eckroth as Facility Maintenance Worker at Grade
2, Step B ($17.23 per hour), effective on our about April 17, 2006, contingent upon
successful pre-employment screening.
