SUBJECT: Recognition - Law Enforcement Special Olympics Assistance

INTRODUCTION:
At the March 21 st City Council meeting, there will be a recognition of Shakopee Police
Chief Dan Hughes, and Scott County Sheriff Dave Menden for their assistance with an
event that was held on behalf ofthe Special Olympics.
BACKGROUND:
Arvid Sornberger, a Shakopee resident who is active with the local chapter ofthe Tri-
County Chargers, has requested an opportunity at the March 21 st Council meeting to
introduce Captain Rodney Sauer of the Savage Police Department. Captain Sauer
coordinated much ofthe international Law Enforcement Torch Run to raise money for
the Special Olympics. The International Torch Run was held last fall in the Twin Cities,
and had runners from around the world.
Captain Sauer would like to recognize Chief Hughes and SheriffMenden for the
assistance that they provided during the portion of the Torch Run held in Shakopee/Scott
County.
