(!;.).. · Police Department Memorandum To: Honorable Mayor, City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator CONSEt~T From: Officer Kevin Gulden ~ Subject: Surplus Property Date: March 6, 2006 INTRODUCTION The Shakopee Police Department is seeking council approval to declare confiscated firearms as surplus property, and authorize their sale to The Sports Stop. BACKGROUND The police department has obtained several firearms through forfeiture proceedings which are not suitable for departmental use. The police department received the following bids for these firearms: Ray O'Herron Company, $1526.00; and The Sports Stop, $2,700.00. Both vendors possess Federal Firearms Licenses (FFL's). A list of the firearms is attached. VISIONING RELATIONSHIP This action supports: Goal E: Financially strong Strategy: 10: Ensure city's fiscal health ALTERNATIVES 1. Authorize staff to declare the handguns as surplus property and approve their sale to The Sports Stop. 2. Do not authorize. 3. Table and provide direction to staff. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends alternative one. ACTION REQUESTED If Council concurs, they should by motion declare the confiscated firearms as surplus property, and authorize their sale to The Sports Stop, in the amount of $2,700.00.
