DATE: January 25,2006
INTRODUCTION:
Council is asked to declare certain items held by the Police Department as surplus
property.
BACKGROUND:
The Police Department currently is in possession of numerous items that have been
recovered and stored over the last several months. The attached memorandum, from
Community Service Officer T.J. Baker, lists the bicycles that can now be disposed of.
In prior years the bicycles in good condition have been auctioned at the Bicycle Safety
Rally with the funds going into the City of Shakopee' s General Fund. The bicycles that
were not sold were disposed of. Due to the number of bikes that have already been
recovered this year we would like to have an auction. Weare seeking council approval to
dispose of the bicycles by auction or disposal.
VISIONING RELATIONSHIP:
This action supports:
Goal E: Financially Strong
Strategy 6: Provide high quality services
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends Council declare these items held by the Police Department as surplus
property for the purpose of proper disposal.
ACTION REQUESTED:
If the Council concurs, it, should, by motion, declare these items surplus property and
authorize staff to appropriately dispose of these items.

SUBJECT: Bike Surplus Property
During the month of March I would like to schedule an auction to sell surplus property that is
currently being stored in our department. Currently the Police Department is in possession of
36 bikes and 1 baby stroller that have been stored as found property for several months.
These bikes have been queried in NCIC and our NWS with a cross comparison of stolen/lost
bicycle reports. The rest of the bikes did not have any positive matches in the state computer
database or our NWS. Attached is a list of those bicycles that are ready to be declared surplus
property.
