SUBJECT: Successful Completion of Probationary Period -- Police Officer Karen Johnson
and Police Records Technician Jean Link

Introduction
The City Council is asked to recognize Police Officer Karen Johnson and Police Records
Technician Jean Link's successful completion oftheir initial probationary periods.
Background
Karen Johnson was hired as a probationary police officer on February 6,2006 and has now
completed the one-year probationary period required of police officers. Jean Link was hired as a
Records Technician in the Police Department on July 10, 2006 and has now completed the
required six-month probationary period for Civil Service employees in non-sworn positions.
Chief Hughes is satisfied with the performance and contributions of both employees and
recommends that they each be granted full-time regular status in their respective positions.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the Council recognize Officer Johnson and Ms. Link's successful
completion oftheir respective probationary periods and grant them full-time regular status.
Relationship to Vision
The hiring and retention of qualified individuals to serve as City employees contributes to a
vibrant, resilient and stable city (Goal D).
Requested Action
If it concurs, the Council should offer a motion to grant full-time regular status to both Karen
Johnson and Jean Link in their respective positions with the Shakopee Police Department.
