INTRODUCTION
The Police Department is seeking council approval to declare some miscellaneous items
surplus property for donation to the Gulf Coast hurricane relief efforts.
BACKGROUND
The City of Shakopee Police Department has a surplus of items and would like to donate
to the Gulf Coast hurricane relief efforts. The donation would be made to police
departments located in Bayou La Batre, Alabama and Dauphin Island, Alabama. The
items are as follows:
. 10 M-70 military gas masks
. 8 helmets
. 8 Mag-Lite flashlights.
. 2 duffle bags
. 15 miscellaneous pieces of web-gear
The majority of these items were procured by the department at no cost from military
surplus and were used by the departments' tactical team. The listed equipment is no
longer useful and has been replaced by new equipment.
ALTERNATIVES
1. Authorize staff to declare the items as. surplus property.
2. Do not authorize.
This action supports City Goals:
# 3 Provide quality services with available resources.
#11 Ensure a safe and secure community.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends alternative one.
ACTION REQUESTED:
If council concurs, they should by motion declare the listed items as surplus property.
