NO. 6325 10;0, 1.1 CITY OF SHAKOPEE Police Department COt~SENT Memorandum TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Teri Scherer, Police Secreta~~~ SUBJECT: Request to accept W AL-MART Donation by Resolution No. 6325 DATE: November 7,2005 INTRODUCTION: The Shakopee Police Department is offering Resolution No. 6325, to accept donations totaling $2,750 from the W AL-MART Foundation. The W AL-MART Foundation has made two donations to the Shakopee Police Department in the amounts of$1,750 and $1,000. BACKGROUND: These funds are intended as donations to the Police Department with no designated assignment, and are presented to council at this time. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Offer Resolution No. 6325. 2. Do not offer Resolution No. 6325. 3. Table and provide direction to staff. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends alternative #1. ACTION REQUESTED: If council concurs, offer Resolution No. 6325 accepting the donation and move its adoption. This action supports City Goals: 1 # 3 Provide quality services with available resources. #11 Ensure a safe and secure community. RESOLUTION NO. 6325 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MlNNESOT A, ACCEPTING A $2,750 DONATION FROM W AL-MART FOUNDATION. WHEREAS, on November 6, 2002, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 5794, which established procedure relating to the receipt of gifts and donations by the City; and WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5794 specifies that donations valued over $1,000 shall be accepted by resolution of the City Council, and shall require a two-thirds majority of the City Council for acceptance; and WHEREAS, W AL-MART Foundation has graciously donated $2,750 to the Shakopee Police Department. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the donation of$2,750 is gratefully accepted. FURTHER, that City staffis directed to send a letter to the donor, acknowledging receipt of the gift and expressing the appreciation of the City Council.
