SUBJECT: Authorization to Fund Street Banners for First Avenue
Action Sought
The EDA is asked to authorize the purchase of up to 80 street banners for placement along First Avenue, at a cost
not to exceed $3,600.
Background
The EDA is asked to authorize the purchase of banners to be attached to the streetlight poles along First
Avenue, from the 101 Bridge east to the bridge by Dangerfield's Restaurant. The Economic Development Advisory
Commission (EDAC) has worked with staff on the design process and recommends proceeding with the purchase.
A picture of the final design selected by the EDAC is attached.
Quotes were sought from three vendors. The recommendation is to purchase eighty 24" x 48" outdoor vinyl
banners from The Grafix Shoppe at the quoted price of $3,580.31. Also included in this price is custom set up,
shipping and handling, plus one sample banner to verify fit and quality.
Recommendation
The EDAC is recommending purchase of banners with funding coming from the EDA budget.
Budget Impact
Money was not specifically budgeted for this project, however the cost can be accommodated by the adopted EDA
budget for this year.
Relationship to Vision
This supports Goal A, "Keep Shakopee a safe and healthy community where residents can pursue active and quality
lifestyles."
Requested Action
The EDA is asked to offer a motion to authoirze the purchase of 80 downtown street banners from The
Grafix Shoppe, at a cost not to exceed $3,600, to be taken from the 2013 EDA budget.
