BACKGROUND
In 2004, City Council called for a citizen task force to review and provide input regarding
accessibility items. Approximately 10 residents volunteered to serve onthe task force,
and consist of parents, students, and professionals.
The task force met for the first time in December. Since then, the task force met on a
monthly basis to discuss accessibility items within the Accessibility Transition Plan. The
primary focus of their work has been to review the transition plan completed by JQP,
Inc., in order to gain a better understanding of accessibility issues and to make
applicable recommendations on how to best proceed with the corrections. As part of this
work, the task force has held a meeting in each of the city's public buildings. In addition
to facilities, the task force has also reviewed existing programs and services
The Task Force would like to meet with Council to review their progress to date, and
discuss a work plan for improving programs and services for our residents with
disabilities.
