CITY OF SHAKOPEE MEMORANDUM To: Mayor and City Council CONSENT Mark McNeill, City Administrator From: Mark Themig, Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Director Meeting Date: August 16, 2005 Subject: Huber Riverfront Park Trail Grant Acceptance, Resolution No, 6285 INTRODUCTION City Council is asked to adopt Resolution No. 6285, A Resolution of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota Accepting a Minnesota Trail Grant Program from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for the Huber Riverfront Park Project. BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION In March, City Council authorized grant applications for the Huber Riverfront Park project. We submitted applications for the Local Trails Grant and Outdoor Recreation Grant program, We were notified that funding in the amount of $92,000 is being recommended to the Federal Highway Administration from the Local Trails Grant program, These reimbursable funds are to be used to develop better access to the Minnesota River Valley Trail that runs through Huber Riverfront Park, (They are not for improvements to the River Valley Trail.) The grant is a matching grant, and matching funds are included in the Huber Riverfront Park project budget. Projects funded by this grant must be completed by June 30, 2007 or the funds expire. REQUESTED ACTION If City Council concurs, it should, by motion adopt Resolution No, 6285, A Resolution of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota Accepting a Minnesota Trail Grant Program from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for the Huber Riverfront Park Project. RESOLUTION NO. 6285 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA ACCEPTION A MINNESOTA TRAIL GRANT PROGRAM FROM THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES FOR THE HUBER RIVERFRONT PARK PROJECT WHEREAS, the City of Shakopee submitted a grant application to assist with funding trail improvements at the Huber Riverfront Park project; and, WHEREAS, the City has been notified that the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is recommending approval to the Federal Highway Administration for $92,000 in reimbursable funds; and, WHEREAS, the funds are to be used for the purpose of developing better access to the Minnesota River Valley Trail. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the City of Shakopee (The City) accepts the grant and will provide funding to match the grant award. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City is the fiscal agent for the grant, and the grant will be administered by Mark Themig, Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Director, 1255 Fuller Street, Shakopee, Minnesota, 55379. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City will maintain the improvements funded by the grant for a period of no less than 20 years.
