SUBJECT: Approval of Plans & Specifications and Ordering Advertisement for Bids for the
Valley View Road Improvements Project, from Evergreen Lane to Sarazin Street,
Project No. 2012 -7, Res. No. 7326 (E)
Action Sought
Council to pass a motion approving Resolution No. 7326, A Resolution Approving Plans and
Specifications and Ordering Advertisement for Bids for the Valley View Road Improvements,
Project No. 2012 -7, and move its adoption.
Background
On March 20, 2012, Council adopted Resolution No. 7178, a resolution receiving a report and
calling for a public hearing on the Valley View Road Improvements Project. On April 17, 2012,
a public hearing was held and at that meeting, City Council adopted Resolution No. 7189, a
resolution ordering the improvement and the preparation of plans and specifications for this
project. The title sheet drawing is attached for the project area to be done by the City. The rest of
Valley View Road is included in the County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 17 Project.
Staff is requesting that City Council approve the plans and authorize advertisement for bids. Due
to Chapter 429 requirements, the City must advertise the project for 21 days.
Recommendation
Offer Resolution No. 7326, A Resolution Approving Plans and Specifications and Ordering
Advertisement for Bids for the Valley View Road Improvements, Project No. 2012 -7, and move
its adoption.
Budget Impact
if the project is approved, it will be funded by the Sanitary Sewer Fund, Storm Sewer Fund,
Special Assessments, Shakopee Public Utilities and State Aid.
Relationship to Vision
This supports goal B, "Positively manage the challenges and opportunities presented by growth,
development„ and change."

WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 7189 adopted by City Council on April 17, 2012,
Bruce Loney, Public Works Director has prepared plans and specifications for improvements for the
Valley View Road Improvements Project, which includes Valley View Road from Evergreen Lane
to Sarazin Street by installation of sanitary sewer, watermain, storm sewer, street reconstruction,
concrete curb & gutter, aggregate base, bituminous paving and any appurtenant work and has
presented such plans and specifications to the Council for approval.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA:
1. Such plans and specifications, a copy of which is on file and of record in the Office
of the City Engineer, are hereby approved.
2. The City Clerk shall prepare and cause to be inserted in the official paper, in the
trade publication Finance and Commerce, and on questcdn.com an advertisement for bids upon the
making of such improvement under such approved plans and specifications. The Advertisement for
Bids shall be published as required by law.
