SUBJECT: Request to Begin Selection Process - Police Records Specialist
DATE: July 12, 2005
INTRODUCTION:
The Police Department is asking Council to request the Shakopee Police Civil Service
Commission to begin the selection process for a part-time (30 hours) Police Records
Specialist.
BACKGROUND:
The current vacancy is due to the retirement of Patty Mohrbacher and the transfer ofTen
Scherer to Chief's Secretary. Ten Scherer was a Police Records Specialist; with her
transfer there is an opening for a Police Records Specialist in the Police Department.
BUDGET IMPACT:
This is consistent with the Council's 2004-2006 City Goals and Action Plan. Goal #3-
Continue to provide quality services with available resources, and goal #ll-Ensure a safe
and secure community.
Funds exist in the current police budget for this position
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Request the Shakopee Police Civil Service Commission to begin the selection
process.
2. Deny the request.
3. Table and provide direction to staff.

RECOMMENDATION:
Alternative #1. Staff recommends Council request the Shakopee Police Civil Service
Commission to begin the selection process for a Police Records Specialist position.
ACTION REQUESTED:
If the Council concurs, they should, by motion, request the Shakopee Police Civil Service
Commission to begin the selection process for a part-time Police Records Specialist and
move its adoption.
