Michael Leek, Community Development Director SUBJECT: Transit Fare Increase MEETING DATE: June 21,2005 INTRODUCTION: On May 3rd, the Council approved a revision to the City's transit fares to confirm to the Regional Fare Structure. At that time, staff informed the Council that a 25-cent fare increase was under consideration. That increase will take effect on July 1, 2005. The Council's action in May did not make it clear that the intent was to conform to that or future fare increases, so Council is being asked to take action clarifying that matter. If adopted by the City Council, the fare increase would impact only express service users, and not users of dial-a-ride or circulator services. In any event the express fares would still be less than they were prior to the change in fares that occurred in May. In the future, if additional fare increases occur, staff would provide that information to the Council in advance, although specific action to change the fares would not be sought. ACTION REQUESTED: Offer and pass a motion authorizing the appropriate City officials to update the City's transit fare schedule as needed to comply with the Metropolitan Regional Fare Structure. k;J d ~// ~/t), ~ / n /9--- ?-"'" ;/ ), ~--/~~ ~ .~ R. Michael Leek, Community Development Director SUBJECT: Public hearing to consider changes in transit fare structure MEETING DATE: May 3, 2005 INTRODUCTION: With the institution of regular route transit service in 2004, which triggered the requirement to provide ADA transit service, fares for Shakopee Transit and Scott County Transit services will have to comply with the regional fare structure. Scott County expects to begin ADA service on or about June 1 S\ thus the County Board and City Council are asked to approve these changes effective June 1 st. On Tuesday, April 26th, the County Board did approve the changes. The only increase for Shakopee Transit riders will be the general public using dial a ride. Part of the reason for this increase is to encourage use ofthe circulator service, which is a more cost effective service. It should be noted that for youth and seniors, there will be no change in the dial a ride fares. ACTION REQUESTED: After closing the public hearing, offer a motion to approve the proposed fare changes effective June 1, 2005. R.
