SUBJECT: Possible Special Meeting - Audit Review
DATE: June 2, 2005
INTRODUCTION:
The Council is asked to give direction as to whether they wish to have a special meeting
prior to June 30th, so as to adopt the 2004 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report
(CAFR).
BACKGROUND:
Finance Director Gregg V ox1and has advised me that due to a delay in receipt of needed
information from Shakopee Public Utilities, the auditor may not be done with the 2004
CAFR in time for a presentation at the June 21 st City Council meeting. By law, the City
must submit its CAFR to the State Auditor by June 30th.
In previous years, the auditor has made a presentation to the City Council. Following
that presentation, the Council has adopted the CAFR. However, there have been
typically few questions about the report.
Because of the timing, if the Council wished to have a formal presentation, prior to
submission to the State Auditor, a special meeting would have to be held the week of
June 2ih. As an alternative, the Council could choose to have a presentation by auditor
after July 1 st at a regular meeting, or simply review the findings on its own at a later time.
RECOMMENDATION:
Unless the Council sees a need to have a formal presentation, staff s recommendation
would be for the Council to review the CAFR and the auditors memorandum on its own.
ACTION REQUIRED:
If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, indicate that no formal audit presentation is
needed.
