INTRODUCTION
The Shakopee Police Department is offering Resolution No. 6327, to accept a $4,000
donation from the Shakopee Eagles Aerie 4210 to be used to purchase two automatic
external defibrillators (AED), and any remaining balance to be used for digital cameras.
BACKGROUND
As a means to enhance the Police Department's emergency response capabilities, the
Shakopee Eagles Aerie 4120 wishes to donate the sum of four thousand dollars ($4,000)
for police related equipment. They have specified the funds are to be used to purchase
two AED' s and digital cameras with any remaining funds.
The funds will be presented to Council by Shakopee Eagles President, Kenith Larsen.
ALTERNATIVES
1. Offer Resolution No. 6327.
2. Do not offer Resolution No. 6327.
3. Table and direct staff.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends alternative No.1.
ACTION REQUESTED
The Mayor is asked to introduce Chief Dan Hughes who will introduce Mr. Larsen.
Following the presentation, if the City Council concurs, it should, by motion adopt
Resolution No. 6327, a resolution of the City of Shako pee, Minnesota, accepting a
donation of $4,000 for specified police equipment from the Shakopee Eagles Aerie 4120.
RESOLUTION NO. 6237
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, ACCEPTING A
$4,000 DONATION FROM THE SHAKOPEE EAGLES AERIE 4120 CLUB, TO BE
USED FOR TWO AUTOMATIC EXTERNAL DEFIBULATORS, AND THE
REMAINING BALANCE FOR DIGITAL CAMERAS.
WHEREAS, on November 6,2002, the City Council adopted Resolution No.
5794, which established procedure relating to the receipt of gifts and donations by the
City; and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5794 specifies that donations valued over $1,000
shall be accepted by resolution of the City Council, and shall require a two-thirds
majority of the City Council for acceptance; and
WHEREAS, The Shakopee Eagle Aerie 4120 Eagles Club has awarded the
Shakopee Police Department a $4,000 donation to purchase two Automatic External
Deliberators and any remaining balance to be used for digital cameras; and
WHEREAS, such a donation will benefit the public when officers respond to
emergency and medicalcalls-for-service and provide the Police Department with
additional life-saving equipment.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the donation of $4,000 for specified police
equipment from the Shakopee Eagles Aerie 4120 Club is gratefully accepted; and
FURTHER, that City staffis directed to send a letter to the donor, acknowledging
receipt of the gift and expressing the appreciation of the City Council.
Adopted in regular session of the City Council of the City of Shakopee,
Minnesota, held this day of 2005.
