TO: Mayor and Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Gregg Voxland, Finance Director SUBJ: Purchasing Limit DATE: March 3, 2004 :Introduction Council is requested to consider increasing the purchasing limit from $5,000 to $10,000 without Council action. Background The City Administrator and designated staff are currently authorized to make purchases of less than $5,000 without prior Council approval. This limit has been in place for quite a while and several inquiries have been made about increasing the limit. Current state limit is $10,000 and has been in place for a few years. Items purchased would have to already included in the budget. Alternatives 1. Status quo at $5,000. 2. Increase limit to $10,000. 3. Increase to an amount between $5,000 and $10,000. Recommendation Alternative No. 2. Action Move to direct staff to prepare an amendment to the City Code to increase the purchasing limit from $5,000 to $10,000 for items not requiring prior Council approval. ~gV~ Finance Director c:\gregg\memo\purchaselimit
