Downtown Partnership PO Box 6, Shakopee, MN 55379 (612) 720-8026 www.visionshakopee.org Annual Report 2003 Letter from the 2004 President To our Sponsors, Volunteers and Contributors: During 2003, Vision Shakopee took a look at itself internally and made some significant changes. One of the areas we looked at was our communications. As a result two new communication vehicles were instituted. a. First, a website was designed and implemented. On our web site,www.visionshakopee.org, you will find a brief history of Shakopee, a list of supporting business sponsors, a listing of Board Members, and the current meeting agenda and minutes. b. The second addition to our communications program is the quarterly newsletter, which is mailed free of charge to downtown businesses, volunteers, and sponsors. If you are not on the mailing list please give us a call so we may add you. Early this year the Board had a planning retreat to which all downtown businesses were invited to gIve their input. From this meeting the Board developed a Plan of Action and budget. The budget included some new funding sources such as, a raffle at the annual banquet and investment income from supporting members. The Board was restructured, with the help of Carol Schultz. Terms, tenn ..limits and liaison appointments were established. Liaison positions are to be filled with appointees by the Shakopee City Council, Shakopee City Staff and the Shakopee Area Chamber of Commerce. Also this year the Board engaged the part-time services of Lauri Glenn on a contractual basis to be our Executive Director. The Board believes all these changes will result in more effective governance, a better informed constituency, and more efficient imple mentation.ofthe Board decisions. Your comments on these changes as well as your suggestions for further improvements are always welcome. Sincerely, Gaylen Case 2004 President III Vision Shakopee! . Downtown PClftnership 2004 Plan of Action The 2004 Plan of Action calls for the continuation of a number of programs that have proven successful in recent years. This includes the Annual Banquet, which has not oruy been our major fundraiser but also has been an opportunity to tell the Vision Shakopee story. This year we will be adding a raffle to this spe- cial evening to enhance the fundraising portion of the event. In the way of new events, Pat Schroers is . leading a committee that is planning an Art Fair to be held in Downtown Shakopee this summer. Plans are underway for a Farmer's Market that would be located in the City parking lot on Second Avenue. The market would be open Saturdays from June 19th to August 28th; The tradition of lighting a holiday tree will be revived this year. Bryan Turtle is heading up this event which we anticipate to take . place by the archway in the River City Centre Plaza. Plans are underway for a walking tour of the historic buildings in down- town Shakopee. We would like to identify each building with a plaque. This would be Shakopee's own way of celebrating and preserving these historic treasures. Last year Vision Shakopee reactivated the Riverfront Development Committee. This committee of Shakopee citizens will provide leadership in the creation and execution of a plan to improve and redevelop the riverfront that will be the pride of the entire community. Special Acknowledgements Vision Shakopee is fortunate to be the annual recipient of a number of in-kind contributions which help fund our Plan of Action.
