Action Sought
The City Council is asked to authorize the hiring of Bryan R. Hughes for the position of Community Service
Officer.
Background
The Police Department's Community Service Officer position is currently vacant, following the resignation of
Nathan Hook in April. The Police Civil Service Commission recently completed the necessary testing to establish a
new eligible register for the position. The following are the top three candidates on the register, listed in
alphabetical order:
Michael Ahlmann
Bryan Hughes
Sergio Pedreguera Cruz
Recommendation
Chief Tate recommends the hiring of Bryan Hughes, at Step 1 of Grade 2 of the City's Non -Union Pay Plan ($16.79
per hr), contingent upon successful completion of the required pre - employment physical, drug test and
psychological evaluations.
Relationship to Vision
Hiring well - qualified individuals contributes to Goal E: Deliver effective and efficient public services by a staff of
well- trained, caring and professional employees.
Requested Action
If the Council concurs, it should offer a motion to authorize the hiring of Bryan Hughes, at Step 1 of Grade 2 of the
City's Non -Union Pay Plan, contingent upon successful completion of the required pre - employment physical, drug
test and psychological evaluations.
