SUBJECT: Approval of Quote for CR 17 Pedestrian Tunnel Lighting(E)
Action Sought
Approve a motion authorizing a quote for CR 17 pedestrian tunnel lighting.
Background
The Upper Valley Drainage was recently redone in the area of CR l 7 to stabilize slopes and eliminate riprap areas.
Part of this project was to install lighting by the CR 17 pedestrian tunnel.
Initially staff considered adding light poles at either end of the tunnel and presented this alternative to Shakopee
Public Utilities(SPU).After further review with Ken Taillon of SEH,the City lighting consultant, a LED system in
the tunnel would provide better and safer lighting.
Attached to this memo are plans sheets for the design. Quotes have been requested from and received from the
following contractors:
l. Egan McKay - $10,875.00
2. Killmer Electric - $ 7,157.00
3. Choice Electric - $ 6,680.00
The low quote received is from Choice Electric at$6,680.00.
City staff is also receiving assistance from SPU staff in bringing power to the site so the lighting system can be
installed by donating labor. The City will be paying for SPU equipment and materials which is estimated at
$1,500.00 and Public Works will supply one person for this installation. Total cost of project and to the City is
$8,180.00.
The donation of the power for these lights is being requested from SPU on May 6, 2013.The City will be
responsible for maintaining these lights. Any changes from the May 6th SPUC meeting will be brought forth to the
May 7th council meeting.
Recommendation
Approve a motion authorizing the quote from Choice Electric at$6,680.00 for the CR 17 pedestrian tunnel lighting.
Funding will be from the Capital lmprovement Fund.
Budget lmpact
Funding of the CR 17 pedestrian tunnel lights quote and SPU work will be from the Capital Improvement Fund.
Lighting for the CR 17 tunnel was mentioned with the Upper Valley Drainageway Slope Stabilization project in
2012.
Relationship to Vision

professional employees".
Requested Action
