Dakota County Receiving Center Contract CITY OF SHAKOPEE S, 0, Police Department Memorandum CONSENT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Sergeant Craig Robson SUBJECT: Dakota County Receiving Center Contract DATE: January 19,2006 INTRODUCTION The Police Department is requesting approval to extend its contractual agreement with the Dakota County Receiving Center for transportation services. BACKGROUND Each county within the state is statutorily mandated to provide detoxification services. Currently the police department contracts with Dakota County Receiving Center for these services. This contract includes detoxification and transportation services. The contract addendum represents a $3 increase for transportation services over last year, due to increased fuel prices. This agreement would serve to extend the current detoxification contract until December 31, 2006. BUDGET IMPACT The Shakopee Police Department used the services of the Dakota County Receiving Center and was billed for transportation thirty-six times in 2005. Money has b~en budgeted and is available to pay for these services. VISIONING RELATIONSHIP This action supports: Goal A: Active and healthy community Goal B: High Quality of Life Strategy 2: Enhance physical, mental, spiritual health Strategy 6: Provide high quality services ALTERNATIVES 1. Authorize appropriate City officials to enter into a contractual agreement with Dakota County Receiving Center for transportation services. 2. Reject the police department's request to extend the current contractual agreement with Dakota County Receiving Center. 3. Table the request for more discussion. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approving the police department's request to enter into a contractual agreement with the Dakota County Receiving Center for transportation services. ACTION REQUESTED: If council concurs, they should by motion authorize, appropriate city officials to enter into a contractual agreement with the Dakota County Receiving Center for transportation services to their facility.
