Authoization to Advertise for Facilities Maintenance Worker jftA ~ CITY OF SHAKOPEE ~., 4) MEMORANDUM To: Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator From: Mark Themig, Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Director Duane Toenyan, Facilities Maintenance Lead Meeting Date: January 3, 2006 Subject: Authorization to Advertise for Facilities Maintenance Worker INTRODUCTION This agenda item requests authorization to advertise and start the recruitment process for the Facilities Maintenance Worker position. BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION With the recent construction of the new Police and Library buildings, and anticipation of the completion of the Public Works building in February, the 2006 budget includes a new Facilities Maintenance Worker and a Custodian position. We are seeking authorization to begin the recruitment process for the Facilities Maintenance Worker. The Facilities Maintenance Worker position would provide support to Duane Toenyan, Facilities Maintenance Lead, in keeping up with the day-to-day activities of the city's Government Buildings: City Hall, the Library, Police Department, the Senior High Rise Community Room, the old and new Fire Stations, and the old and new Public Works buildings. (There is an existing Facilities Maintenance Worker assigned to Recreation Facilities: Community Center, Ice Arena, Aquatic Park, and Youth Building.) It will also allow Mr. Toenyan to spend more time planning preventative and ongoing maintenance projects. We anticipate bringing the Custodian position authorization forward later this winter. This position is in Grade 2 of the City's pay plan. Scott County would provide the recruitment and scoring services needed to fill the position. VISIONING RELATIONSHIOP This position will help ensure the long-term viability of the City's investment in buildings that serve our residents, employees, and guests by providing preventative, ongoing, and emergency maintenance and repairs. With this in mind, this action appears to meet the following aspects of the City's vision: Goal: Vibrant, Resilient, Stable Strategies: Provide High Quality Services Ensure City's Fiscal Health ACTION REQUESTED: If City Council concurs, move to authorize advertising and recruiting for a Facilities Maintenance W9rker position,
