TO: Mayor and City Council
Mark McNeill, City Administrator
FROM: Jamie Polley, Parks, Recreation & Natural Resources Director
DATE: 04/16/2013
SUBJECT: Arbor Day Proclamation - April 26, 2013 (F)
Action Sought
The Mayor is asked to read the 2013 Arbor Day Proclamation.
Discussion
Arbor Day is celebrated worldwide. Communities that celebrate Arbor Day and provide ongoing care for the City's
urban forest are eligible to become Tree City USAs. The Parks, Recreation & Natural Resources Director has
submitted the Tree City USA application for the City since 2008. The City has now been a Tree City USA for five
years.
The Arbor Day Proclamation is a requirement as part of the Tree City USA application. The proclamation brings
awareness to the community about the history and importance of Arbor Day. It also encourages our citizens to
celebrate Arbor Day in conjunction with the City. The City celebrated Arbor Day by holding the Arbor Day tree
sale or through the planting of trees. The City will again celebrate Arbor Day on April 26, 2013 by planting a
tree(s) with the Teen Advisory Board.
